Mario Ortega, MD
Jose Mario Ortega, MD
Jose Mario Ortega, MD has been a pediatrician at International Pediatrics since 1999. Son of founder Mario Ortega, MD he graduated from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala and completed his residency at the Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center where he was Chief Resident.
Jose Mario Ortega, MD currently serves on the Medical Advisory Committee of one of the largest insurance companies in the area. He is also a Director of a local childrens’ soccer club. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and attending Capitals and soccer games.
Scott Wissman, MD
Originally from Manhattan 'The Little Apple" Kansas, Dr. Scott Wissman has been with International Pediatrics since 2003. He graduated with a BA in Spanish Modern Languages from Kansas State University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received a Master of Public Health and his MD from the George Washington University School of Medical and completed his pediatric residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the American Board of Pediatrics. He has been listed in the Washington Magazine's list of Top Doctors and the Washington Post Magazine's Super Doctors list.
Dr Wissman's wife is from Mallorca, Spain and they have three wonderful children who are also bilingual. He loves anything Star Wars, playing the piano, and practicing magic tricks.
Christine Tanner, CPNP
A native of northern Virginia, Christine spent her early years as a student in Washington DC, where she was fortunate to learn Spanish. She then decided to move “down south” for college and some country music. At Vanderbilt University, she received a Bachelors of Science in Child Development and then continued on to receive a Masters of Science in Nursing, with a specialization in Pediatric Primary Care. Christine graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University and returned to Washington DC in the early fall of 2012. Shortly after, she started at International Pediatrics. She has the following qualifications:
- A certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the state of Maryland
- A registered nurse in the state of Maryland, Tennessee, and the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Board certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board
- Member of NAPNAP (National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners)
Christine now lives in Washington DC and likes to think of herself as a bit of a “foodie”. In her free time she enjoys cooking, baking, and trying new restaurants in the DC area. She has run several half marathons and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is honored to be a part of the International Pediatrics family.
Fabiola Morales, FNP
Fabiola is originally from Peru. She has lived in the Washington metropolitan area for more than 10 years. Fabiola earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Georgetown University and a masters in family medicine at Marymount University. Fabiola enjoys speaking Spanish with her patients and their parents. She is very proud of her Spanish heritage. Having grown up in a Latin American country, Fabiola has a deep understanding of Hispanic culture and the specific needs of Hispanic patients.
Her clinical interests encompass all aspects of pediatric care from newborn to adolescence. Her particular interests include preventive medicine and adolescent mental health issues.
In her free time, Fabiola enjoys spending time with her spouse and three young children. She also loves playing tennis and painting super heroes.
Fabiola’s multicultural experience has increased her belief that to be the best health care provider you need to have strong medical knowledge while being a sensitive and compassionate person.
Melissa Chon, CPNP
Melissa Chon, CPNP, joined International Pediatrics in June 2016 and currently resides in Rockville with her husband and their son. She is a DMV native and attended the University of Virginia for undergrad majoring in Psychology and French. After graduating, she served two years in the Peace Corps as an English teacher in Benin and decided to pursue a nursing career after returning to the United States. She attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing to obtain her BSN and MSN to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Other past experiences include serving as a Patient Care Volunteer at Children’s National Medical Center, a Cultural Orientation Intern with the International Rescue Committee, and a doula for expecting mothers. In her free time, Melissa enjoys traveling. Some of her most memorable trips include hiking in Acadia National Park in Maine, attending Easter Sunday mass in Vatican City, visiting Victoria Falls in Zambia, and swimming with whale sharks in Mozambique.
Adriane Hanelt, CPNP
Adriane Hanelt is originally from Brazil and is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She received her BSN from University of Maryland and her MSN from the Catholic University of America in D.C. Taking care of children has always been her passion and a part of her professional and personal life. She lives in Columbia, MD with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and spending time with family.
Mary Anne Israel, CPNP
Mary Anne moved this past year from San Francisco, California with her family. She graduated from UCSF in 2002 and has spent most of her professional life at San Francisco General Hospital in primary care with a focus on the newborn period and asthma. Her primary clinic interests are wellness and illness prevention and working with families around these issues to optimize their child's health and overall well-being.
Still feeling new to the east coast, she enjoys exploring the area with her family, especially the mountains and beaches.
Amy Pennington, CPNP
Amy Pennington is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certified in primary care. She graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing with her bachelor's and master's in nursing. Prior to joining International Pediatrics, Amy worked as a heart and kidney nurse at Children's National. Her clinical interests include asthma, breastfeeding, and nutrition. In her free time, Amy likes to cook, bike, and enjoy the outdoors with her husband.
